Gitmo Inmates Have Satellite TV, Phone Access, McDonald's, Sudoku, And Now... Laptops

This is a little bit old. But it's such a wonderful humanitarian gesture toward radicals opposed to the trappings of Western civilization - well, it's really just heartwarming is what it is:
These captives already get to order fast-food takeout from the base and have access to a phone booth for weekly calls. Now some 17 Uighur Muslims awaiting a nation to grant them asylum are about to go high-tech, with laptops and web training. While awaiting details of President Barack Obama's order to close the prison camps by Jan. 22, commanders here have ordered 20 laptops for the captives of Camp Iguana. "As you know, detainees are leaving this place," said Army Lt. Col. Miguel Mendez... "We're getting them computer classes to prepare for their return."
Because when they get out, I want them well-versed in digital communication. That way they can become Al Qaeda chiefs like released inmate Said Ali al-Shihri, as opposed to plain boring foot soldiers.
At least our kid glove treatment of these fanatics is paying dividends:
The U.S. military is rigging up satellite television service and distributing Sudoku puzzles in Guantanamo prison cells even as the Obama administration works towards a goal of emptying them of detainees. The amusements are aimed at providing mental stimulation for the 240 remaining captives, whom human rights monitors and defense lawyers have said were being driven mad by years of isolation at the U.S. prison for suspected terrorists... It is difficult to gauge the impact of the changes on the captives' behavior and journalists are not allowed to speak to the prisoners themselves. Hayhurst said that for first time in 20 months, the camp recently went four whole days without any assaults on guards. But the respite was followed by four assaults in a single day involving urine-feces cocktails, the weapon of choice among Guantanamo's inmates.
Technically the weapons of choice among Gitmo inmates are assault rifles and rocket launchers, which are the kind of arms at least 61 of them took up again upon their release. As a cohort, they've actually been pretty busy:
Since leaving Club Gitmo several of the graduates took part in attacks on the Russian pipeline, the Russian city of Nalchik, on Pakistani forces, in Morocco, on the US Embassy in Yemen, etc. At least 61 Gitmo grads have returned to terror. Two Gitmo detainees rehabilitated in Saudi Arabia rejoined the jihad and recently made a movie. Former detainee at Guantanamo Bay, Abu Sufyan al-Azdi al-Shahri (right) and former detainee at Guantanamo Bay, Abu al-Hareth Muhammad al-Oufi appeared in a threatening Al-Qaeda movie this week.
I'm not sure whether that list includes American teenager Susan Elbaneh, who was murdered by a released Gitmo detainee. And keep in mind that 61 is the confirmed number. The NYT puts the number as high as one in seven released inmates, which they're getting from a unreleased Pentagon report. Unreleased because that's not the kind of information that you need to know.
