Spending like sailors, opposing gay marriage, emphasizing Obama's Muslim roots - are we sure that mid-decade Republicans didn't win the last election?

During a conference call in preparation for President Obama's trip to Cairo, Egypt, where he will address the Muslim world, deputy National Security Adviser for Strategic Communications Denis McDonough said "the President himself experienced Islam on three continents before he was able to -- or before he's been able to visit, really, the heart of the Islamic world -- you know, growing up in Indonesia, having a Muslim father -- obviously Muslim Americans (are) a key part of Illinois and Chicago."...

[During the election] the campaign's "Fight the Smears" website addressed the candidate's faith without mentioning his father's religion: "Barack Obama is a committed Christian. He was sworn into the Senate on his family Bible. He has regularly attended church with his wife and daughters for years. But shameful, shadowy attackers have been lying about Barack's religion, claiming he is a Muslim instead of a committed Christian. When people fabricate stories about someone's faith to denigrate them politically, that's an attack on people of all faiths. Make sure everyone you know is aware of this deception."

For the second time in two days: it's not just that leftists unblinkingly denied something that was demonstrably true (and, in this case, mostly irrelevant with the marginal exception of Pipes's apostate musings). The broader point, which gets into just how vapid these tools are, is that they wrapped up their arguments in the most unbelievably obnoxious pseudo-sophistication. Take equal measures half-baked facts and feigned outrage, stir the pot, and let simmer on Kos for a couple hours. Remove the lid and, just like that, you've got tens of thousands of slack jawed partisans ready to hiss and shriek indignantly. "Make sure everyone you know is aware of this deception." Magical.

They really do just say stuff, don't they?
