Finally: The Obama USB Drive

So I had a whole post planned just around the design, given how (a) it's a surreal example of Obama's cult of personality, where his beaming visage is plastered across everyday items until it becomes ubiquitous and (b) it's as ugly as sin. Then I was going to scribble something about how his Mac-toting brownshirts will never go for it because it's not painted white, and done and done.
Then I read the product description:
This 2GB USB Drive commemorates President Obama's rise to the White House with an Obama hologram on the face of the pivot-style drive. The drive comes preloaded with nearly an hour of Obama's landmark speeches in MP3 format including his Inaugural Address. This drive is tiny enough to easily fit on a keychain.
Now I have a whole new set of questions. For instance - the Wright speeches, either the one where he promised never to throw Wright under the bus or the one a few weeks later where he threw Wright under the bus. Are they on there? They weren't on the iPod of speeches that he gave the Queen. But this drive - priced too low even to give as a gift to the Prime Minister of Britain - is ostensibly supposed to provide inspiration and instruction. What could be more instructive than instilling in citizens an appreciation for doublethink?
And to return to the design issue: why silver on black? Aren't these kinds of solemn pronouncements and adages, duly dispersed among the faithful, usually bound in red? Not that I'm implying that Obama's worshipers should be compared to Mao's followers. Mao's people were atheists.
