Hey - the UN has noticed that there are rockets falling on Israel. It only took a full-blown global crisis to get their attention. And of course Ban couldn't help himself from feeding the press a faux sophisticated "cycle of violence" frame:

UN chief Ban Ki-Moon on Tuesday visited the rocket-scarred southern town of Sderot, calling Hamas' rocket fire against Israel "appalling and unacceptable." Just before, Ban toured the war-torn Gaza Strip where he voiced shock and anger at the "heartbreaking" devastation wreaked by Israel's three-week offensive on the Hamas-ruled coastal territory. He pledged aid for Palestinians after Israeli attacks killed 1,300 and left thousands homeless.

That's nice of him. It would have been nicer if he considered all that before UNRWA spent years openly employing Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists. Of before they spent decades funding terrorist infrastructure. Or before they let their buildings get transformed into Hamas military installations. Or before they condemned Israel for responding to that exploitation after they first shamelessly lied about it.

During the first week of Operation Op Lead, by the way, the State Department arranged for the US to give $85 million in new funding to UNRWA. Because of course they did.
