CAIR: Complaining About The Anti-Semitic Attacks We're Inciting Is A "Distraction"

Nothing is off-limits any more. Abroad, old-school anti-Jewish pogroms are again being conducted. In America, insane anti-Semitic incitement - followed inevitably by the anti-Semitic violence that it stokes - is again an ingrained part of public discourse:
Jewish leaders in the Chicago area said they fear placards at two recent pro-Palestinian rallies that twist the Star of David into a Nazi swastika and compare the deaths in Gaza to the Holocaust inspired a string of attacks in the last two weeks on several synagogues and a school. The "blatant anti-Semitic language" at the rallies, which were held Jan. 2 and Jan. 9, have delayed a collaboration between local Jews and Muslims to draft principles for civil discourse on the Middle East conflict, they said. Organizers of the pro-Palestinian rallies said they don't condone the vitriol in the placards. Some condemn it. But some say complaining about cardboard won't solve the humanitarian crisis unfolding in the Middle East. "I think both the protesters who exaggerate the message out of emotion or to draw attention--as well as their critics who jump on it to score a 'gotcha'-- are distracting from the real and tragic humanitarian crisis at hand," said Ahmed Rehab, executive director of the Council for American Islamic Relations.
Well that's weird. Usually CAIR is so keen to identify unacceptable, heinous bigotry. Notepads that say "Build With Jesus" call for corporate-wide sensitivity training at national firms. But complaining about anti-Semitic slogans that are triggering violent rampages - that's a distraction.
Some people might consider the "real crisis at hand" to be how waves of anti-Semitic violence are cascading across the planet. Or how blatant anti-Semitic tropes are now a part of American public discourse on cable TV, on public radio, and in the streets. But that would stifle the "criticism of Israel" that Walt and Mearsheimer's ilk insist is never voiced in political discussions. So I guess we're just going to have to accept Nazi emblems at "human rights" rallies as price for elevating public discourse (h/t: MR reader EN)
