Hamas's "Big Surprise" - An Attack On Dimona That Will Trigger A Full-Blown Regional War?

Dimona

Hamas and their Iranian patrons keep alluding to a "surprise" that awaits the IDF. Most people think they're alluding to either: (a) improved Katyushas that are able to hit Tel Aviv or (b) mine-laced urban alleys that may kill hundreds of Israeli soldiers. But what if they mean something totally different:

There were growing fears in Israel last night that Hamas missiles could threaten its top-secret nuclear facility at Dimona. Rocket attacks from Gaza have forced Israelis to flee in ever greater numbers and military chiefs have been shaken by the size and sophistication of the militant group's arsenal... Israel's airstrikes are designed to blunt Hamas's capacity to fire its new Grad missiles deep into its territory. The weapons are smuggled in through tunnels and by sea, replacing homemade Qassam rockets. Israeli officials say that Hamas has also acquired dozens of Iranian-made Fajr-3 missiles with an even longer range. Many fear that as the group acquires ever more sophisticated weaponry it is only a matter of time before the nuclear installation at Dimona, 20 miles east of Beersheba, falls within its sights. Dimona houses Israel's only nuclear reactor and is believed to be where nuclear warheads are stored.

It's a Times Online article and its proof of Israeli concerns are an interview with a 40 year old female jeweler from Beersheba. Plus Israel's nuclear warheads are stored throughout silos located in the Negev. So skepticism is certainly warranted. But Dimona has a gigantic reactor and less than two dozen miles from where Hamas's rockets landed yesterday in Beersheba.

Israeli military doctrine properly interprets any attack on Dimona as an unconventional attack, requiring a disproportionate unconventional response against the responsible party or parties. The best military intelligence indicates that Hamas's Katyshuas came from Syria and Iran. Even seasoned Israelis have been wondering what Hamas's endgame could possibly be. A drip drip drip erosion of Israel's deterrent is one thing. But Hamas's actions after the ceasefire were an open invitation to war. What people forget is that this is a fanatical arm of a genocidal Iranian regime: lighting up the entire Middle East definitely has to be considered as one of their potential endgames.
