Liberal Think Tanks, Majority Of Democratic Voters Condemn Israeli Self-Defense In Gaza

Democratic

Nice to see that Alan Dershowitz's gamble - supporting and defending Obama's anti-Israel foreign policy team because it would make liberals like Israel - is paying off dividends:

Sixty-two percent (62%) of Republicans back Israel's decision to take military action against the Palestinians, but only half as many Democrats (31%) agree. A majority of Democrats (55%) say Israel should have tried to find a diplomatic solution first, a view shared by just 27% of Republicans. While 75% of Republicans say Israel is an ally of the United States, just 55% of Democrats agree. Seven percent (7%) of Democrats say Israel is an enemy of America, but only one percent (1%) of Republicans say the same. For 21% of Republicans, Israel is somewhere in between, and 28% of Democrats agree.

J-Street and the Israel Policy Forum - the Democratic think tanks that were unique among American Jewish groups in being unwilling to ostracize Carter for his vicious rants - are echoing the Huffington Post's demonization of Israel and calling for international pressure:

In the first sign of a post-election struggle to set the American Jewish community's Middle East agenda, a quartet of liberal pro-Israel advocacy groups is criticizing Jerusalem's decision to launch retaliatory attacks against Gaza. J Street, Americans for Peace Now, Brit Tzedek v'Shalom and the Israel Policy Forum all issued statements defending Israel's right to strike Hamas installations in Gaza but saying, with varying degrees of forcefulness, that such actions will be counterproductive and damage Israel's security in the long run. In their statements, they called for intervention by the United States and the international community to restore a cease-fire between Israel and Hamas.

I know I've beaten this question into the ground, but still: if you're on the other side of the Israeli government and three-fourths of the Israeli public - can you really call yourself pro-Israel?

Actually it turns out that you can. Because there's a "bipartisan consensus in support of Israel." Democrats told me so.
