Palestinian Authority, Arab Countries: Of Course This Is Hamas's Fault

Hamas

These are the fleeting moments that make me think that Shimon Peres's dream of a New Middle East might have something to it. Israelis and Arabs could put aside their differences and bond over mutual distaste for Western hummus, mutual dismissal of sane driving, and mutual antipathy for Hamas:

Hamas could have prevented the "massacre" in the Gaza Strip, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas said Sunday in Cairo. "We spoke to them and told them 'Please, we ask you not to end the cease-fire. Let it continue,'" Abbas said during a joint press conference with Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit. "We want to protect the Gaza Strip. We don't want it to be destroyed."... Aboul Gheit also attacked Hamas, saying the group had prevented people wounded in the Israeli offensive from passing into Egypt to receive medical attention. "We are waiting for the wounded Palestinians to reach Egypt. They aren't being allowed to go through," he said.

The Arab League has pushed back their meeting on the Gaza invasion till Wednesday. The delay "worries them very much" but not enough to - you know - have it any sooner. So the only countries and organizations going out of their way to condemn Israel are: Iran, Libya, the EU, and mainstream media outlets. Interesting - and not particularly estimable - company.
