Syria Pretty Psyched About Their Obama-Era Negotiating Position

Obama

Imagine that they would take this position...

Damascus has proposed that Turkish-mediated talks with Israel resume "officially,' perhaps even directly, after Barack Obama assumes the U.S. presidency and a new government is elected in Israel, according to a reporter from the Qatari paper Al-Watan, in Damascus. Arab sources told the paper that until that time, Syria is not interested in continuing talks with Israel.

... right after Carter advised them to take exactly this position:

This jagoff crawls into Damascus - after having been humiliatingly spurned by Hezbollah - and basically tells Assad to wait it out: "Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter predicted Saturday an improvement in U.S.-Syrian relations under U.S. President-elect Barack Obama and expressed hope that full diplomatic relations would be restored."

Having helpfully explained to Syria that they should wait for Obama to pressure Israel, Carter is now advising Hamas on prisoner exchanges:

Former US President Jimmy Carter is 'advising' Hamas politburo chief Khaled Meshaal on how high a price he can get for kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Shalit. Former United States President Jimmy Carter reported that he advised Syrian-based Hamas leader Khaled Mashaal on what price to demand from Israel for the release of IDF soldier Gilad Shalit... Carter wrote on his website that he spoke with Mashaal about "formulas for prisoner exchange to obtain the release of Corporal Shalit," who has since been promoted to sergeant.

And that's when he's not feeding the press pro-Hamas propaganda. A inexorable force for peace, that guy.
