Syria: On Second Thought, We're Gonna Wait A Few More Months Before Talking About A Peace Deal (UPDATED AND BUMPED: Assad Convinced By Malley Not Brzezinski?)

Chill

Update: Maybe it wasn't the February meetings with Brzezinski that caused Assad to decide that he might get a better deal by waiting a little bit. Via LGF:

In May of this year, Barack Obama fired Middle East adviser Robert Malley when it was revealed that Malley had been holding secret talks with Hamas... According to reports from the Middle East, Ben LaBolt and the Obama campaign were lying. Report: Obama Sends Advisor Malley to Cozy Up to Egypt and Syria.

Now confirmed by both Israeli and Egyptian sources. Figures.

Original (11/09 14:50PST) Weird. They've seemed so eager over the last year to try to get whatever they can. I wonder what changed:

Syrian President Bashar Assad accused Israel on Sunday of not being genuine in its professed desire for peace with its Arab neighbors and criticized a proposed US-Iraqi security agreement that would keep American troops in Iraq for three more years. In a speech to Arab parliamentarians in Damascus, Assad said Israel must prove it desires peace by offering to withdraw from all territories captured during the Six Day War. "Until this moment, we still see that the peace slogan is used as part of an internal political game in Israel and as a major factor in external political maneuvers," the Syrian president said.

Hey, remember that time in February when Brzezinski - an Obama adviser whom the President-elect describes as "one of our most outstanding thinkers" - went to Damascus to meet Assad? I wonder what they discussed.

Meanwhile Syria is enthusiastically participating in the broader Arab and Muslim efforts to reinvigorate the anti-Israel boycott. No word on how many German firms are eager to help them, but it's at least one.
