Genocidal Lunatics And Vicious Terrorists Helpfully Illustrate Negative Connotations Of "Change" For American Electorate
Remember how conservatives kept trying to make the basic point - self-evident to all but the most aggressively stupid toddler - that "change" can be bad? And remember how that never really sunk in? Maybe a few post-election examples will help avoid this nonsense next time around. So for instance, the Jordanian Muslim Brotherhood, is pretty psyched about Obama's style of change:
They considered his win an "apology" from the American people to the peoples of Iraq and Afghanistan... IAF Secretary General Zaki Bani Ershaid [said]... "Obama's victory is also tantamount to an apology... for the crimes committed by the outgoing Republican administration"... his party [is] the political arm of the influential Muslim Brotherhood movement... "A real change in the US policies cannot materialize without rectifying the erroneous attitude considering Israel an ally, withdrawing troops from Iraq," he said.
Iran is similarly thrilled about the change an Obama administration will bring:
Iranian officials on Wednesday welcomed Barack Obama's victory in US presidential elections, calling it a sign of failure of President George W Bush's policies... 'Obama's election as the US president shows the American people's demand for essential changes...Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki was quoted as saying... Gholam-Ali Hadad-Adel - senior advisor to Iran's supreme leader - said the victory of the slogan of 'change' is the admission of the American people to the failure of Bush's policies.
The Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood? Pretty pleased about the prospect of change:
MOHAMED MAHDI AKEF, LEADER OF THE EGYPTIAN MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD, ONE OF THE LARGEST ISLAMIST GROUPS IN THE MIDDLE EAST "We congratulate (Obama) on the confidence of the American people in him and we hope that he will change the policy of the United States toward the Middle East and toward the crimes which are happening in Afghanistan and Somalia, in other words that he adopts a just policy that restores to America its natural position of respect for humankind and democracy."
The Taliban have also found a way to be enthused about Obama and his change:
The Afghan Taliban on Wednesday called upon U.S. President-elect Barack Obama to withdraw troops from Afghanistan and usher in an "era of peace" in the world. "We want him (Obama) to change the policies of President (George W.) Bush. He could end the years-long war by withdrawing U.S. and allied troops from Afghanistan, " Qari Mohammad Yusuf Ahmadi, spokesman for the Taliban, told the Pakistan-based Afghan Islamic press.
Hamas? Predictably excited about Obama promise to change things:
The Hamas terrorist group believes the election of Sen. Barack Obama is an "historic victory" for the world and an opportunity to change U.S. foreign policy toward engagement with America's foes, [said] Ahmed Yousef, Hamas' chief political adviser in the Gaza Strip... Yousef, speaking by cell phone from Gaza, said Hamas is drafting a letter of congratulation to be sent tomorrow directly to Obama. He said the current draft of the letter praises the president-elect as "another John F. Kennedy, or great Roosevelt."
Indonesian jihadists, of course, chose to ruin what might have been a near-perfect list by emphasizing the imbecilic Hope stuff in The One's ministry instead the vapid Change part. Pity:
The MUI is the country’s top state-endorsed Muslim organisation. It is considered rather conservative and out of sync with most of the country’s 200 million Muslims, who profess a liberal and moderate version of Islam. Achmad Sobry Lubis, secretary general of the militant, anti-American Front Pambela Islam (FPI) said that he "praised Allah for Obama’s win." "This is what we all wanted and we are now very hopeful that he can restore peace in the world," he told AKI.
Or I could be wrong. Maybe a blind demand for change, buttressed by an obstinately uninformed hope, will totally work out super.
