Iran: We're Going To Preemptively Attack Israel

Clowns

Oh please. This is the same "nu uh - your face!" schoolyard idiocy that these tools pull when they complain to the UN about Israeli belligerence. Clowns:

Senior Tehran officials are recommending a preemptive strike against Israel to prevent an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear reactors, a senior Islamic Republic official told foreign diplomats two weeks ago in London. The official, Dr. Seyed G. Safavi, said recent threats by Israeli authorities strengthened this position, but that as of yet, a preemptive strike has not been integrated into Iranian policy... Safavi said a small, experienced group of officials is lobbying for a preemptive strike against Israel. "The recent Israeli declarations and harsh rhetoric on a strike against Iran put ammunition in these individuals' hands," he said.

Yeah - because up until now Iranian rhetoric about "wiping out Israel" had no connotations of wanting to wipe out Israel. And no, of course they're not going to conventionally preempt Israel. They'd get dismantled. What we've got now, though, is a genocidal leader at the head of apocalyptic Islamic state that's building nuclear weapons. Iran is threatening to attack Israel while Israel is considering its own first strike: the very definition of a downward deterrence spiral. And yet - when Israel gets around to defending itself, who do you think is going to get blamed for the ensuing war?

The rest of the article contains the shocking revelation that Iranians are willing to let Obama appease them. No mention about whether they'll stick to their precondition of having Obama sell out Israel first. Technically it's overkill because Israel will be forced to sit on the sidelines while Obama chats up the mullahs for a couple years. But if you've already got a naive and untested President willing to appease you, why not go for broke? It's not all bad: sure Iran will get nukes - but at least we'll "reclaim the moral high ground!"

Anyway, I've been looking for a place to dump that "nuclear spy pigeons" story that everybody else on the planet already blogged: enjoy yourselves. One day stories like this will seem almost poignant.
