Dennis Ross: "I'm Endorsing Obama Because He'll Make Iran And Iran's Financial Backers Like Us"

Dennis Ross has concluded that "the ideal that politics stops at the water's edge" is so last decade. He wants you to know that he's supporting Barack Obama because Barack Obama is a just a helluva guy, ya know?:
When I was with Obama in Berlin and more than 200,000 people turned out in the heart of Europe to wave American flags, this was an extraordinary development. It reminded us that an American leader who is admired can lead not only our country but also make it easier for others to follow our lead. And, when I look at the Middle East -- where we face our greatest threats today -- we need others to follow our lead in stopping Iran from going nuclear and discrediting radical Islamists.Hezbollah now has a veto power over any decision the Lebanese government can make and possesses 40,000 rockets... Hamas has taken over Gaza, creating a miniterror state there and today has over 2,000 rockets...
I was with Obama in Israel and in Europe, and I saw how he focused on the urgency of the Iranian threat. Obama understands that weak sticks and weak carrots -- the current policy -- can't work. We need strong sticks... [and] strong carrots... Engaging without illusions might be one way to describe how diplomacy would be conducted in an Obama administration.
200,000 Germans huh? Super. Maybe he can ask them why their country has been pouring billions into Iran and sending their ambassador to Iranian "Death To Israel" rallies. 200,000 people, right? Presumably one of them knows. These are the people who are going to help us contain Iran? Please.
As for Hezbollah: Hezbollah is in power because of State's Obama-like strong sticks and strong carrots approach to Lebanon. This disaster was enabled by the mid-level State morons that Obama would elevate to cabinet chairs. So I'm having trouble seeing this as a reason to vote for Obama.
And now Iran. Listen. This mind numbing "aggressive diplomacy" idiocy has to stop. Argue for engagement. Argue against engagement. Whatever. But don't pretend that sitting down with the mullahs is somehow good for the US-Israel alliance. I mean - really? Iran has stated - as a matter of simple policy - that they will not sit down with Obama unless he cuts off Israel first. So one of two things will happen:
(1) Obama will not cut off Israel - talks don't happen and Israel gets blamed for standing in the way of US diplomacy. Walt and Mearsheimer throw a party. US-Israeli relations plummet, at the cost of Israel's security and of America's interests in the Middle East.
(2) Obama will cut off Israel - talks happen directly at the expense of the US-Israel alliance, undermining Israel's security and America's interests in the Middle East.
I can't be kind about this any more. Anybody who pretends that Obama will be anything but a disaster for the US-Israel alliance is either an idiot or in breathtaking willful denial. And Dennis Ross is not an idiot.
