There's a second video - with another lingering camera shot over her barely moving body - posted to the same account. Yeah, I dunno. No one wants to be the person who groans at a joke. But tackling Palin would be funnier if Obama supporters weren't actually attacking her supporters or photoshopping pictures of shooting her in the head or posting shirts to Obama's blog site branding her a cunt or hawking those and other shirts online. Not much funnier. But at least still funnier.
On the other hand - I'm not sure that now is the best time to take away the left's "it's just a joke" excuse. This is a political community in desperate need of a little humor and distance. How pathological is their Palin hatred? This pathological: insufferable San Francisco yuppies are actually giving up on pretentious wines because the names sound too much like "Sarah Palin." Seriously:
Chris Tavelli, who owns the Yield Wine Bar in San Francisco's revitalized Dogpatch neighborhood, noticed recently that demand for his best-seller, an organic wine from Chile's Lymari Valley, had plummeted. The likely reason? The wine's name, Palin Syrah, sounds a lot like Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee.
I have a close liberal friend who insists that she "hates Palin like the woman did something personal" to her. That's not an isolated reaction:
A posting on a New York-based Web site for women, Jezebel.com, spoke of unbridled anger. "What I feel for her privately could be described as violent, nay, murderous, rage... When Palin spoke on Wednesday night, my head almost exploded from the incandescent anger boiling in my skull." Ms. Grose was not alone. More than 700 comments poured in, many from women who said they were experiencing a visceral hostility to Mrs. Palin that they were struggling to explain. "... I literally want to vomit with rage," a comment from Anibundel said. "I am shocked by the depths of my hatred for this woman," another commenter, CJWeimar, wrote.

And then came Sarah. My reaction to her... was immediate, visceral, and indeed, vicious. I have crossed every line I believed should never be crossed in public discourse -- I have criticized not only her policies and her record, but her hair, her personal style, her accent, her abilities as a mother, etc. I've also begun to suffer personally and professionally. I bore my friends with my constant tirades against her, and am constantly distracted from my work by my need to continually update myself on the latest criticism, and indeed, ridicule, of her.
Conservatives have always insisted that underneath the left's seething resentment was a stagnant pool of petulant hatred. Replace "stagnant pool" with "violent torrent" and remember to emphasize how these paranoid movements always end up wallowing in degrading sexualization - and that's about right. Unhinged. Totally, completely unhinged.
