Obama Shill Tells Jews To Get Over Their "Obama Paranoia"

Paranoid

Kind of bold coming from a tool who alternates between publishing anti-Palin smears and trumpeting pro-Biden lies. The nuance of Atlantic bloggers becomes more impressive with each passing day:

Dear Jews: Stop the Obama Paranoia - ... Barack Obama has called Israel America's strongest ally in the Middle East; he wants to stop Iran from getting the bomb; he is a stalwart enemy of Hamas and Hezbollah; he is the darling of Chicago Jewry; he is the protege of Sen. Dick Durbin, whose election was aided immeasurably by AIPAC; he himself is close to AIPAC; his advisers include Dennis Ross, Jim Steinberg and Richard Clarke; and on and on and on. So, all you rumor-mongering, fever-headed Jewish conspiracists: Support McCain, if you want, and there are credible reasons for doing so, but stop smearing Obama in the face of overwhelming evidence that the man is a great friend of Jews and of Israel.

With all due respect, bullshit. Here's Goldberg's entire laundry list in reverse order, since its easier to dispense with the patent falsehoods at the bottom than to untangle the misleading confusion at the top:

* His advisers include Dennis Ross, Jim Steinberg and Richard Clarke - Well first of all, Dennis Ross is not an Obama adviser. That is a pathetic lie. Jim Steinberg similarly does not appear to be anything more than a speech consultant. But I'm glad that Obama's past and present advisers are back on the menu. Until now the campaign's been saying that having 300+ advisers means that no particular individual matters. So: Obama adviser Tony McPeak thinks American Jews tricked Bush into invading Iraq. Obama adviser Robert Malley thinks that Palestinian intransigence is Israel's fault. Obama surrogate David Bonior is "the biggest supporter of the anti-Israel Arab lobby in Congress". Obama adviser Zbigniew Brzezinski is an anti-Israel nutjob. Obama adviser Daniel Kurtzer thinks that Middle East instability is Israel's fault, a problem which Obama adviser and SecState candidate Samantha Power thinks can be solved be solved by invading Israel. Seriously: here's the video. But hey, apparently Richard Clarke seems to be having a great influence on the team. Go team!

* He himself is close to AIPAC - No, actually the organized Jewish community is terrified of Obama. But wouldn't it be super if this was actually true? Then all us paranoid supporters of the US-Israeli alliance could just ignore this whole thing.

* He is the protege of Sen. Dick Durbin, whose election was aided immeasurably by AIPAC - Technically he's only Durbin's political protege. But fair enough: he is the protege of Sen. Durbin, who thinks that anti-Semitic nutroots hysterics should be setting Democratic foreign policy. It goes without mentioning that, given his autobiography's title and content, he's the spiritual protege of Rev. Wright, who thinks that Israel should have been invaded instead of Iraq. As for the asinine phrase "whose election was aided immeasurably by AIPAC" - it can be helpfully juxtaposed with the relevant point that Obama's own election is being aided immeasurably by illegal donations from Iran and North Korea.

* He is the darling of Chicago Jewry - That might prove a lot of things, but one thing it does not prove is that Obama favors strong US-Israeli ties.

* He is a stalwart enemy of Hamas and Hezbollah - No, he is at best a lukewarm opponent of Hamas who wants to personally meet with their Iranian sponsors and couldn't bring himself to issue more than a pro forma condemnation of Carter's Gaza visit. So much does Hamas not think that he's a stalwart enemy that they're phone banking to get him elected. Which is about the minimum they can do since - Biden's unblinkingly denial aside - Obama supported the 2006 Hamas election.

* He wants to stop Iran from getting the bomb - Awww. That's adorable. Really it is. It would be more adorable if the centerpiece of his foreign policy wasn't a guaranteed failure, if he didn't talk as if the problem with Iranian nuclearization was that Israel will overreact, if he wasn't being advised by people who think that we need to fully engage genocidal lunatics, if he himself hadn't expressed a desire to reconcile with said genocidal lunatics, and if hadn't picked as his VP a guy who thinks Israel should just roll with Iranian nukes. But really - adorable.

* Barack Obama has called Israel America's strongest ally in the Middle East - I admit I was surprised when he said that during the debate, because when he was debating during the primaries he expressed a very different opinion.

There are only two ways that a journalist could seriously write about "overwhelming evidence" that Obama is a "great friend of Israel": either that person is sadly delusional or that person is intentionally lying. Which would be bad enough, except these tools are also oscillating between sullen petulance and aggressive mendacity.
