The Bush White House has never wavered on Iran/Hamas ties. McCain got hammered by Obama and his media sycophants for insisting that Iran cooperates with Sunni terrorist groups - and instead of backing down he reraised. The cornerstone of Obama's foreign policy - in contrast - has been that Hamas and Iran are fundamentally different. Only when pushed by McCain did he admit the obvious.

Good timing:

Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Wednesday said his country will stand beside Gaza's Hamas rulers and that Israel is on the path to eventual destruction. According to Iranian state-run TV, Khamenei called Hamas' prime minister in the Gaza Strip, Ismail Haniyeh, a "mojahed," or soldier of holy war, saying the Iranian nation will "never let you be alone."... Khamenei, who was speaking at prayers marking the Islamic Eid al-Fitr holiday, has predicted Israel's downfall in the past, like Iran's hard-line President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Hey, does this mean that Carter was wrong when he said that Hamas was no longer trying to destroy Israel? Or maybe Khamenei just missed that memo?

Liberal foreign policy experts have been insisting that Ahmadinejad's views are losing power in power - that's been obviously wrong for years and now it's undeniable that Khamenei is just as radical as he is. And those experts have been insisting that Sunnis and Shiites never cooperate - despite how Iran openly provides advanced weapons to both Syria and Hamas. I don't know if their aggressive ignorance is the result of ideological propaganda ala Juan Cole or of myopic over-education ala "well we just don't know" sophistication. But I do know that it's aggressively stupid.

Of course Sunni and Shiite radicals cooperate. They have every significant goal in common and - liberal sophistication aside - nothing significant dividing them. A litany of those common goals, dreams, and methods - after the jump.
