Jimmy Carter - a man too anti-Semiticish even for American liberal Jews - is swooping into Israel with long time UN human rights veterans Kofi Annan and Mary Robinson. They're going to help ease tensions:

The council of world leaders launched by former President Nelson Mandela is sending a three-person team to help ease tensions in the troubled Middle East... Former President Jimmy Carter, former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan and former Irish president Mary Robinson will visit Israel, the Palestinian territories, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, and Saudi Arabia from April 13-21.

It's a good thing they're coming in person. Otherwise they'd probably just reflexively blame Israel. This way they can investigate in person and come out with a balanced statement recognizing that Israel has demonstrated incredible restraint considering the Palestinian rockets and missiles raining down on their schools and hospitals (h/t: Anne)
