UN Almost Manages To Kind Of Condemn Yeshiva Massacre. But Not Quite.

Dedicated To Peace

The UN - whose sundry committees and subcommittees found numerous ways to condemn Israel for doing in Gaza what every other country on the planet would have done years ago - can't bring itself to pass a resolution condemning the willful slaughter of Israeli schoolchildren:

The UN Security Council failed to reach an agreement overnight Thursday on issuing an official condemnation over the deadly shooting attack in Jerusalem's Mercaz Harav Yeshiva because of Libyan opposition. "Most members (of the council) wanted to condemn (the attack) but Libya blocked it," Israel's ambassador to the UN, Dan Gillerman, told reporters. US Ambassador Zalmay Khalilzad said US efforts to issue a statement condemning the attack "in the strongest terms" failed because Libya sought to link it to its own resolution urging condemnation of Israel over the IDF operation in the Gaza Strip last week. Khalilzad criticized Libya, saying that a terror attack specifically targeting civilians could not be equated to military operations aimed at stopping rocket fire.

Let's pretend for the sake of argument that the "cycle of violence" meme is something other than vulgar terrorist apologism. Which is to say, let's say that the problem is not 1,000+ years of anti-Jewish genocidal Islamic eschatology but rather an unending he-did-it-so-I-have-to cycle of retailiations. In that case, here's a quick synopsis of the last 24 months: 23 months of Palestinian rocket fire timed to hit children walking to school in the morning followed by two days of limited Israeli incursions into Gaza that ended when human rights groups started screaming followed by a terrorist firing 600 bullets at trapped high school kids. Even then - any organization that de facto equivocates between these seems to be taking into account something other than the ostensible shared humanity of all civilians everywhere.

Now in fairness, there were a ton of UN member states - to say nothing of the UN's Secretary General - who wanted to pass resolutions on this issue. They were blocked because pathological anti-Semites are spread throughout the UN and can use their numbers and their positions to block even the mildest recognition that massacres of Jewish schoolchildren are offlimits as a military tactic. Which is kind of our point.
