The rumors turn out to have been as true and they are disgraceful:

Dutch television stations have refused to air the anti-Muslim film "Fitna," the Dutch government raised its terror threat level and the Taliban threatened revenge killings against Dutch troops in Afghanistan. "While there are no concrete indications of impending attacks in the Netherlands, the increased international terrorism threat has prompted [us] to raise the threat level for the Netherlands from 'limited' to 'substantial,'" the Justice Ministry said. The Taliban has already threatened to target 1,600 Dutch soldiers stationed in the country if the movie is shown.

Sarkozy, meanwhile, is doing everything he can to lend them some backbone:

During a meeting in Paris, French President Nicolas Sarkozy has told Dutch Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende that he will support the Netherlands if it comes under attack because of the anti-Qur'an film Fitna by populist leader Geert Wilders. Dutch Foreign Minister Maxime Verhagen has asked Dutch ambassadors in Islamic countries to do their best to protect Dutch citizens and companies. Pakistan has also brought the issue to the attention of the European Union and the Vatican. At Islamabad's request, the matter has been placed at the top of the agenda at next week's summit of the Organisation of Islamic Conference in Senegal.

Maybe he can turn his attention across the Atlantic next. Our records when it comes to self-censorship in the face of radical Islam and protecting dissidents who refuse to play along isn't exactly stellar either.
