Global Response To Massive Kenyan Displacement And Murder Is Suspiciously Underwhelming

Seriously, Keep Talking

What a mess:

The United Nations believes up to 600,000 people have been forced to flee their homes in Kenya as a result of the violence that followed elections. Head of the UN emergency relief operation, John Holmes, said about 300,000 displaced people were in camps, with the same number living elsewhere. Talks aimed at resolving the political crisis have resumed in Nairobi... President Mwai Kibaki won the poll, but supporters of opposition leader Raila Odinga claimed the vote was rigged. The ensuing political and inter-ethnic fighting is thought to have left about 1,000 dead... The UN has appealed for $42m (£21.6m) from the international donor community, but Mr Holmes said it had received about half of that amount so far.

Meanwhile, the Palestinians keep getting billions and billions in military and humanitarian aid. This actually makes a lot of sense, though. Because Kenyan civilians have been offered peace time and again - and yet they keep electing leaders who promise to wage unending war against Kenya's neighbors. So of course at some point donors would conclude that it's counterproductive to keep giving them aid, especially since it regularly gets stolen and used for terrorism. Not so with the Palestinians, most of whom have been forced into their desperate conditions through absolutely no fault of their own. It's not like a majority of them voted to install a terrorist regime asking to be elected so they could make war. Makes. Perfect. Sense.

Say, you don't think that there might be something other than objective humanitarian concerns driving the world's unflagging support for Palestinian aspirations?
