Obama Complains About Smears From Jewish Groups... And He's Not Totally Wrong (Plus: He's Still Kind Of Wrong)
Obama is getting aggravated with the Jewish community:
Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama said Monday that there is a "constant virulent campaign" being waged against him as he strives to win the party's nomination, aimed particularly at weakening support for him from within the Jewish community. Obama told Haaretz and writers from several Jewish-American newspapers that the campaign against him - calling him Muslim and accusing him of not pledging allegiance to the United States - is especially visible in the Jewish community. The presidential hopeful said he would ordinarily ignore such comments, but he fears that they have been "getting some traction" and are being tuned into by public ears. Thus he said, he has asked the Jewish newspapers and Ha'aretz to use their "megaphone" so people can hear "from the horse's mouth" that all such accusations against him are unfounded.
At first blush this looks like the standard insufferable line that Jewish Democrats often take: "don't point out when Democrats are anti-Israel because that will upset them and make them anti-Israel". So you get the insipid, petulant whiners at the NJDC insisting that "true pro-Israel advocates celebrate bi-partisan support" and "there are some in the Republican Party and conservative movement who are working hard to smash this political consensus". Denial plus ideology is apparently a powerful combination. This was while elected Democrats were strutting around condescendingly and imperiously ordering the Israeli government to "get its act together" because they were "getting tired" of having to listen to complaints about how they're anti-Israel.
Pro-Israel activists aren't allowed top point out that democrats are anti-Israel because that will make Democrats anti-Israel. Brilliant.
So no talking about how the votes of sitting Democratic Congresspeople have been objectively anti-Israel - because that will make Democrats cast anti-Israel votes. And no pointing out how even left-wing Ha'aretz political analysts admit that the Democratic Presidential field is anti-Israel - because that will make the Democratic Presidential candidates anti-Israel. And yet - and yet - Obama's frustration seems to be not entirely without foundation.
This is the second time in a week we've heard about this "right-wing Jewish groups are calling Obama a Muslim" meme. We were skeptical at first because it's a demonstrably retarded claim and we like to think that idiotic religion-related smears are the prerogative of the activist Jewish left (although it's cute how, at the same time that they're making factually incorrect and logically incoherent arguments, they're bragging their intelligence and argumentative acumen). But then we did a quick JBlog search and, well, there are definitely some folks who could stand to be a little more nuanced on this issue. Not just because it's unseemly - although it is - but more because it's really retarded. So how about you knock that off?
The reason to be concerned about Obama is because his foreign policy adviser is Zbigniew Brzezinski - who lost Iran to militant Islam and endorses Walt and Mearsheimer's anti-Semiticish smears against Israel. And also because his core supporters are virulently anti-Israel. Also because his policies towards Iran and Syria would be disastrous. But not because he's supposedly a Muslim. Because that, you see, is retarded.
