Rice: "We Hate Hamas But We Love The Innocent Palestinians Who Love Hamas"

Abjectly and demonstrably stupid:

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Wednesday that the US "will not abandon the innocent Palestinians in Gaza," shortly after Israel declared the territory to be an enemy entity and said it would cut off power and fuel supplies to it. Rice, who arrived in Israel Wednesday afternoon, is expected to discuss with both Israeli and Palestinian leaders the current status of the US-sponsored meeting on the Middle East in November, and which countries are likely to participate.

Yeah, and the Italians didn't really like Mussolini after he started losing. No one likes it when the leaders that they march in the streets to bring to power start failing. That's the nature of a mistake - you regret it. But only in the case of the Palestinians does a snarling admission that maybe they've committed an error amount to an "all is forgiven here have some money and weapons" rush of support from the international community. It's like the world thinks it's dealing with particularly underdeveloped children who keep breaking things and then crying about how they don't have any toys. Except instead, they're dealing with pathological anti-Semites who cheer when Jewish schoolchildren are blown up and bombed.

This is always how it happens with the Palestinians. A large swath of their population - dare we say a majority - takes a gamble that maybe what they need right now is some virulent murderers and Jew haters. And it never works out, because Israel eventually says "yeah, we don't really appreciate having to give concessions to people who admit as we're doing it that they're going to use them as launching pads for attacks against schools and hospitals." And then large swaths of Palestinians insist that they're willing to fight till the end for the right to simultaneously declare unending hostility to the Jewish state and come to the negotiating table demanding concessions. And when that doesn't work, it's always the positively idiotic "well it's not us, it's just the leaders we elected." At this point, we don't think that anyone will ever expect the Palestinians to be responsible for their actions. Ever.
