Palestinians: "If Israel Frees Terrorists And Promises Not To Retaliate For The Last Atrocity, We'll Promise To Wait A Week Before Committing The Next Atrocity"
Arafat pulled this trick for decades. Hamas probably picked it up from him, and Hezbollah got most of the global media involved. Now Islamic Jihad:
Translation: "We just injured 70 of your soldiers and you've responded by arresting a few of us - but if you stop trying to defend yourself and release a bunch of terrorists then we'll let you not retaliate against us". Israel should make a counter-offer: "If you turn in all of your leaders, we'll make them prisoners instead of targeting them for committing war crimes against Israeli civilians". That at least would have the benefit of making sense since each side would actually gain something.
This is how it always happens though: the Palestinians launch an attack, the Israelis respond with a round of air strikes and arrests. Then things calm down. Then the Palestinians launch another attack. It's a cycle of violence!
