If he's really "shocked" that Ahmadinejad feels comfortable openly calling for Israel's destruction in front of diplomats, then he must have one of the most aggressive cases of constantly-updated amnesia in the history of medical science:

Well technically that last part is a lie too - Israel does not have the same rights as other nation states. For instance, Israel is the only country in the world that can't get a rotating seat on the Security Council. In order to get elected, you need to be nominated out of your regional group. Israel is not in any regional group because the Arab and Muslim countries in its region won't let it join.

But back to the main point: Ahmadinejad has suffered virtually no actual consequences - and received not a little bit of anti-Semitic street cred - because of his repeated calls for the murder of six million Jews. Plus, he'd actually like to see that happen. So why would anyone be shocked that he keeps making his lunatic ambitions more and more explicit? We didn't really believe that anyone was shocked the first time he said it - at this point it's about as surprising as hearing far left Democrats oppose the liberation of Iraq.
