Israel In Secret Peace Talks With Syria. Yawn.
There's like no chance:
First of all - screw Syria. Back in the old days, when they controlled Hezbollah, they negotiated in horribly bad faith. Assad would talk peace, but always with the blackmail of potential Hezbollah attacks in the background. Now that Hezbollah's masters sit in Tehran, Syria has literally nothing to offer Israel in exchange for peace. Syria is a third-rate, pipsqueak of a country. Sure, they're modernizing in preparation for war - but they're decades away from being an actual offensive threat. Hezbollah has a better military, more international legitimacy, and probably a more robust economy than Syria. Only a former genocidal Arab aggressor negotiating with Israel could think that he should be given something for absolutely nothing.
But there are some Israelis (and dozens upon dozens of countries) who agree with him. One of them happens to be Prime Minister of Israel right now, and thinks that maybe Israel really should give the Golan to Syria. Let's see though... Abbas says two years at the earliest... do a little subtraction... carry the 1... yep: Olmert is going to end up like 18 months short before he has a chance to screw this up.
