UC Irvine Muslims Can't Decide Between Seething Resentment and Fantasies Of Global Conquest [Video]
Alkalima is the Muslim Student Magazine at the University of California, Irvine. Like most of the propaganda organs of radical Orange County Muslim organizations, it's mysteriously swimming in cash (they have literally dozens upon dozens of editors and staff writers). No one knows exactly where they're getting their cash, but lots of people think that the answer rhymes with "Saudi Arabian money funneled through local mosques". They certainly don't get all their money from the University, so it's either that or they're doing a lot of bake sales.
On display this week (as it is every week with these folks) - the problem with victim identity. Nietzsche diagnosed this pathology more or less definitively over a century ago. Alas, we don't teach kids properly any more (latest "poetry of resistance" in Comp Lit classes - yes; Nietzsche - no). So Muslim radicals haven't gotten the message that seething self-pity is really bad for you.
If they had any self-awareness they wouldn't be as shamefully open about swinging wildly from their pathetic, self-pitying delusions of persecution to fantasies of conquest. First, the pertual litany of how aggrieved they are:
You know what this attack on the "core and fundamental beliefs in Islam" was? Yeah, we don't know either. We think the editor is probably talking about the cartoon jihad, but we couldn't figure it out (honestly - we're not trying to be difficult here - the whole editorial is unclear and rambling). Anyway, the editor concludes by encourage Muslim students to give up their "love of the world". Charming.
But that leads directly into the other, pathological pole of victim identity - the pathetic fixation on imagined fantasies of conquest and revenge. You can click through and read the whole editorial, and you'll see it in the middle (it's the part about Muslims spreading triumphantly across the planet). But it's early in the morning to deal with the nonsense in that thing. So here's a visual demonstration. This is a video that's currently sitting on alkalima's server at http://alkalima.com/worlddomination/ (yes, they actually named the file "worlddomination"). They have a nasty habit of memory hole'ing their expressions of radicalism when people discover them, so we've taken the liberty of cap'ing it over to YouTube:
Sure, they might be joking about the actual global conquest thing (except they're not). But even if - there's still this thuggish obsession with revenge and conquest: with overcoming "arch-rivals", with having a final battle once the "time has come", with finally with destroying their enemies. This is a habit of thought and and a deeply ingrained sensibility, evident everywhere from editor's notes to this bombastic videos promising future glory. It's what's essential about these different expressions of Islam triumphantly conquering the world.
