Israeli-Arab Fifth Column Watch - Israeli-Arab Knesset Member In Canada To Condemn Israeli Apartheid. Read That Again. "Israeli-Arab Knesset Member". "Apartheid".
We've got a longer post going up tomorrow about the dirty rhetorical trick by which "democratic Israel" morphs into an "apartheid regime". But this particular story, from about a month ago, really deserves its own post. Reading this will make you feel like cholesterol is clogging up the arteries in your brain:
Israeli Apartheid Week is a week-long series of events held for the third year concurrently across various North American and European campuses. The event is organized by the Solidarity for Palestinian Human Rights. Event organizers describe Israel as a "settler-colonial state" in the mold of pre-reformed South Africa, arguing "that Israel is in fact an apartheid state, not just a belligerent occupying power."
Apartheid was a system of government in which members of a racial minority were denied full political representation and freedom of travel. This is an Arab member of Israel's parliament traveling across the world to condemn Israel... for being a system in which Arabs supposedly can't get elected, can't vote, can't travel, and can't speak out against the Israeli government.
No but seriously - explain to us again how anti-Israel activism is drive by clear facts - because right now, it seems that it's being propelled by a particularly vicious and suspicious kind of irrationality. But hey, maybe it really is an apartheid regime - like maybe we missed a memo and the meaning of the word apartheid has changed in the last week. We kind of doubt it though.
