MR Now With Sexier Donation Buttons, Full RSS Feeds
ORIGINAL - We just got done reading the results of a very unscientific survey examining why people unsubscribe from blog RSS feeds. The top three results, with the number of people who gave that response to the right:
* Infrequent Posting (or the blog is effectively dead) - 29
* Partial Excerpts Feeds - 25
Realistically, we're not going to do anything about our manic feast or famine blogging habits - either we're procrastinating on papers by blogging or eschewing blogging so we don't get thrown out of school. Other reasons that people get pissed off: the blogger's ego (11), negative blogging (7), personal attacks (6), pushiness of blogger (1). Let's be honest, those are pretty much integral to the MR experience, and thus are here to stay.
So like an alcoholic searching for his keys where he has the best light, we figure that we'd do what little we can and fix the RSS feeds. For those of you so inclined, the feeds should now be giving you full posts.
While we were playing around with the templates we also tinkered with the sidebars. The Other Blogs We Write For section now includes The Astute Bloggers, where we've begun crossposting. We also made the Donation section a little more aesthetically pleasing. We know that you've all been dying to help us pay rent, but that the previous donation button was just too damn ugly. We've fixed that now, so you can get on with the important business of helping us purchase discounted red wine to go along with our beloved Jack In The Box.
UPDATE - We forgot to mention. We've also replaced the Israel Google News feed with an alert widget from GIYUS. We don't think a single person had used the Google News widget to exit-click, while armchair activism is the stuff that blogosphereic dreams are made of...
