Mere Rhetoric: Instead Of Saying Anything Substantive About the Palestinian Unity Government, We're Going To Take A Cheap Shot At Terrorist Appeasing Democrats

We don't really have much to say about the Palestinian unity agreement. Very quickly - for all of our muddy and mutable centrism, we've been consistent on three points:

(1) The Palestinians will never go to a full blown civil war
(2) They will form a unity government and use it to ">dodge their treaty obligations
(3) That will still be good enough for most of the world to lift sanctions

If there is actually a Palestinian unity government and that government declares a ceasefire, the following things will happen: * The international community will announce that the ceasefire is a concession by Hamas which should be rewarded in order to encourage them to moderate further. * Hamas will send out conflicting signals regarding the precise status of their anti-Jewish genocidal commitments - which everyone will convienetly ignore had been unnegotiable divine obligations just a few short days before (and who knows, maybe they'll be serious this time).

We were unfortunately right about the first two, right down to Hamas sending out conflicting signals. Apparently they've committed to "honoring" past agreements, but not to actually accepting them. Honestly though, none of these predictions were particularly clever - without the hatred provided by vicious anti-Semitism, Palestinian terrorists just don't have the energy to commit atrocities. Still, we sincerely hope that we will still be proven dead wrong about Europe lifting sanctions, and that somebody somewhere will grow a backbone. But we're not hopeful.

At least now the Palestinians can follow Abbas's plea to turn their guns on the Israelis. If nothing else, this should be relief to Western media organizations. These last few weeks have undoubtedly been emotionally draining for them, what with not being able to demonize Israel by publishing death porn. So there's that silver lining.

Anyway, here's the promised cheap shot at Democrats. From the JPost article:

Even if they are part of unity government that accepts the Quartet principles the US government would continue to boycott Hamas ministers, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice told Jewish leaders in a closed door meeting Thursday afternoon. The Hamas ministers in the government would still belong to a terrorist organization and on that account the US administration would have no contact with them, Rice said, according to Jewish officials who spoke with The Jerusalem Post following the meeting.

But hey, you know who is willing to meet with Hamas's genocidal leaders? High ranking Democratic officials. Oh, it's true.
