Iran Funding All Sides Of Palestinian Non-Civil War
The great thing about being Iran is that you don't actually have to figure out how to use proxy armies to win wars. All you have to do is cause as much damage as possible.
"Many think that problems in the Middle East spring from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. That's not true. The source of the problem is Iran. The Iranians are giving money to Hamas, Fatah and Hizbullah," Yaalon told the Conference of Presidents of American Jewish Organizations in Jerusalem. President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah faction has been supported by the United States and other western nations for its opposition to Hamas' refusal to recognize Israel. Since Hamas' rise to power in January 2006, the two rivals have been locked in bloody power struggle that claimed the lives of dozens of Palestinians.
We actually think this is kind of unfair. How's Hamas supposed to beat Fatah's armed forces if Abbas is getting money from the US and Iran? It's not even sporting.
Bonus question: if the enemy of my enemy is my friend, what is the friend of my enemy? Or, to put it more bluntly: if Iran thinks that funding Fatah is in their interest, then Fatah probably isn't on the list of "good guys" that the US wants to be sending arms to. But hey, at least Abbas is a moderate. A moderate who tells the Palestinians to turn their (US-supplied weapons) on Israelis, but hey - that's what passes for a moderate in these parts.
What a total clusterfuck.
