Why Don't Jewish Democrats Care That Their Party Hired A Radical Anti-Semitic Imam?

The Democrats are so confident that Jews will never, ever, ever stop voting for them that they've taken to hiring radical imams to do their invocations. Hot Air has the video of Al-Husainy leading the morning prayer, including the part about where the Hezbollah-supporting cleric prays that Allah will "guide us to the right path... the path of the people you bless, not the path of the people you doom."

Oh, and then there was the little part where he had the Democrats saying amen to "stopping the occupation".

First, the "doomed" part. Robert Spencer pretty much proves that this is a not very secret denigration of Christians and Jews, and that no Muslim saying or hearing the prayer could miss the implication. He's got the appropriate citations, right down to a consensus among Muslim scholars on the question. But honestly, we don't care about that part, because we're quite sure that the Democrats saying amen didn't hear it that way. They're startling naivety aside, if we got angry at them every time they let their hear-no-evil get in the way of understanding Islamic radicalism... There is a degree of hypocrisy going on in the media - if a Christian pastor talked about people who are "doomed" at a Republican convocation, mainstream press outlets would be trumpeting the news (and Slate and Salon would be running umpteenth articles decoding the secret, evangelical connotations of the word). But again, if we had to post every time there was a double standard in the media...

Now the "occupation" part we're livid about. Let's assume that he's talking about the liberation of Iraq. In that case, the party controlling the Legislative Branch just literally said amen to the US losing a war to radical Islam - in a prayer led by a radical Islamic cleric. Let's assume that he's talking about the "Zionist occupation of Palestine". In that case, the party controlling the Legislative Branch just literally said amen to wiping the Jewish State of Israel off the map - in a prayer led by a radical Islamic cleric.

The truth, of course, is that he meant both:

Meet Husham Al-Husainy. In Iraq, he was an aircraft engineer. But in America, he's an extremist cleric and disciple of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who enjoys huge mainstream support... But make no mistake. Imam Al-Husainy is no moderate. He was an advisor to the late Mohammed Bakr Al-Hakim, leader of the Iran-backed Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution. He's allied with the mainstream of Iraq's Shia Islam, which is terrorizing and driving out the few Christians left there... This past summer, Al-Husainy seemed very happy leading almost-daily protests of thousands of Hezbollah supporters on the streets of Dearborn and Detroit, swarming with swastikas and anti-Semitic, anti-American signs. Later, I watched him very much enjoy himself at an anti-Semitic rally of 3,000 Hezbollah supporters at Dearborn's Bint Jebail Cultural Center. He was among several who delivered hate-filled, anti-American rhetoric. I watched him cheer others on when they called for the hastened destruction of the Jews and when they said Americans are "diseased." After the event, he seemed very happy when he put his arms around Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's favorite rabbi, Yisroel Dovid Weiss of the Neturei Kartah, who attended the recent Holocaust-denial conference. "We make a great team," he said of Weiss, who was flown into Detroit for the Hezbollah rallies.... Imam Al-Husainy and other Shi'ite leaders in Dearborn are not just followers of Khomeini, they are supporters of Moqtada Al-Sadr and proteges of his late uncle, Imam Mohammed Bakr Al-Sadr--who was murdered by Saddam Hussein. Every year, the Al-Sadr Foundation holds a fundraising banquet in Dearborn. Does any Foundation money go to fund the Mehdi Army?

He supports Iraqi insurgents and the vilest of genocidal anti-Jewish terrorists. Here's a question: what would be worse - if the Democrats failed to vet him and didn't know he was a radical, or if they vetted him fully and didn't care?

Listen.

We understand why progressive Jews might be unable to pull the lever Republican. We're not just saying that. We disagree from a tactical political standpoint, but honestly we can see how reasonable people would disagree. But we just can't understand how any self-respecting Jew can be a Democrat. We don't get it. Explain it to us. It's a party built on an anti-Semitic grassroots base at the bottom, dominated by anti-Semitic veterans at the top, and filled with politicians who are either anti-Semitic themselves or seemingly untroubled by the open anti-Semitism of their colleagues. How can you vote for these people?
