Video: Jimmy Carter Has A Soft Spot For Nazis
Last week we wrote about how Jimmy Carter decided to expend personal and political capital to shield a Nazi who was in the United States illegally. Over the weekend, someone posted the Fox News interview with the man who fought Carter on the deportation:
The critical question: "why would Jimmy Carter go to bat for a Nazi". Remember: former President Carter is not a Nazi sympathizer. It's just that he's staggeringly insensitive to atrocities committed against Jews, and this insensitivity causes him to act very much like an anti-Semite. Carter didn't intervene on this Nazi's behalf because he likes Nazis: he intervened on this Nazis behalf because the man was being separated from his family, and Carter didn't abhor Nazis enough to let that overwhelm the humanitarian issues. Which is to say that he needs to develop a greater distaste for Nazis.
So it's fair to ask what is keeping Carter so dull and myopic regarding anything and everything Israeli and Jewish - and yet so passionate that he's willing to repeatedly stake his reputation to intervene.
