Jimmy Carter - Not Necessarily Pro-Nazi, But Not Categorically Anti-Nazi Either
Hot Air says that Carter's not pro-Nazi, and they're probably right. Still, maybe if he'd be a little more anti-Nazi if he was a little less of an old fashioned good ole' boy anti-Semite. And he was a little more anti-Nazi, maybe he wouldn't go around interceding for Nazis with the US government:
The family approached several members of Congress. “The congressmen would, very understandably, forward their claims over to our office and when they learned the facts they would invariably drop the case,” Sher recalled. But there was one politician who accepted the claims without asking for any further information. “One day, in the fall of ’87, my secretary walks in and gives me a letter with a Georgia return address reading 'Jimmy Carter.'' I assumed it was a prank from some old college buddies, but it wasn’t. It was the original copy of the letter Bartesch’s daughter sent to Carter, after Bartesch had already been deported... "On the upper corner of the letter was a note signed by Jimmy Carter saying that in cases such as this, he wanted 'special consideration for the family for humanitarian reasons.'"
Again - it's not that Carter wants to see people who helped to murder six million Jews rewarded. It's just that he seems to have an overwhelming - almost staggering - lack of appreciation for Jewish and Israeli sensibilities. Which may help to explain why he blithely misled Israel about the amount of US support it could expect if it gave up the Sinai.
You want a snarky Israel angle? We've got an Israel angle. It looks like the Ha'aretz special article insisting that no one in Israel cares about Jimmy Carter is obviously wrong. Which is a shock to everyone who has never read anything in Ha'aretz.
