CNN Writers Tired Of Hiding Their True Feelings: They Kind Of Think Israelis Are Warmongers, And They Don't Care Who Knows
If you click through to CNN's story about the resignation of IDF Chief of Staff Dan Halutz, you're greeted with the headline "Israel military chief quits under fire over war performance". A little inelegant, but technically correct as far as it goes. The rest of the story has the usual rhetorical bias: the Israeli soldiers were "captured" (as opposed to "kidnapped"), at the time of the attack Hezbollah was "a powerful player in Lebanese politics" (as opposed to "a member of the ruling Lebanese coalition"), etc etc. But really, if we're going to get upset about things like persistent anti-Israel bias...
Then again, is it really too much to expect the disaffected interns running the cnn.com frontpage to keep their bias from overflowing into absurdly resentful anti-Zionist jabs? The story's headline once you click through is "Israel military chief quits under fire over war performance". Check out what the CNN.com frontpage thinks of Israel's highest soldier:

War chiefs, of course, are associated with primitive tribes that aggressively attack their neighbors. Now obviously, the headline is in a way true - militaries sometimes end up going to war. But a strong military in the hands of a democracy is also likely to be a deterrent to enemies - even grade school kids can figure that out. But Israel apparently doesn't get the benefit of that doubt.
