Defenses Of Jimmy Carter Are Now Getting Kind Of Annoying
We used to think that Jimmy Carter was just a senile moonbat increasingly embittered by reminders that he let Iran fall into the hands of political Islamists. Recently, we've been finding his symptomatic outbursts linking Israelis to Christ-killers a little suspicious - but we're still willing to listen to reasoned arguments about any good intentions he might have.
One thing that's unpersuasive, however, is the increasing tendency on the Left to act as if accusing a pathos-soaked Southern good-ole-boy evangelical of anti-Semitism is just so absurd. Listen, Carter has been increasingly Bobby-Fisher-esque lately, what with all the "the Jews control American politics" and "the Jews are trying to silence me" and "the Israelis are acting like Christ-killers" talk.
Of course, we're probably being reactionary and unfair. After all, Jimmy Carter won a Nobel Peace Prize! So he just can't have a vague distaste for Jews! Ditto for Yasser "unfairly maligned by Jews" Arafat.
