Hamas: One Israeli Boy Is Worth 450 Palestinians
Sounds about right to us:
We supported Sharon's original prisoner release deal with Hezbollah without reservation. The assumption then was that the exchange was a one-time deal, and that any future Hezbollah kidnappings would be met with a wrath that only Sharon could unleash. The problem turned out to be that only Sharon could unleash that kind of wrath, and that under Olmert Hezbollah and Hamas were free to repeat the same kinds of atrocities that they had promised to forgo.
This time we're a little more reticent to reward kidnappers, but there is an Israeli teenager in the hands of savages - and something has to be done about that. So - in contrast to what we suspect will be the reaction of much of the pro-Israel blogosphere - we're willing to be merely apathetic to this deal provided that no terrorist with blood on his hands is freed.
And besides, the math sounds about right - now if only we could get AI and HRW to use the same formula.
