Prisoner Exchange News: Because You Wanted To Have A Shitty Day Anyway

Good morning, and welcome to your world:

A senior Israeli source said Monday that the total number of prisoners that Israel would be willing to exchange for captive IDF soldier Gilad Shalit is some 1,000. Israel is expecting that progress will be achieved on the negotiations for Shalit's release as a result of the meeting between Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh and exiled Hamas political bureau chief Khaled Meshal, in Damascus on Monday. The two Hamas leaders were expected to have reached an agreement on the deal that is being negotiated for the release of Shalit in exchange for the freeing of many Palestinian prisoners.

What is a known and functioning terrorist leader doing in Damascus, you ask? Waiting for James Baker to call him, we expect.

Listen: we've been consistent on this: we have no problem in theory with the "1 Israeli life is worth 1,000 Palestinian lives" - provided that what's good enough for the Palestinian Prime Minister is good enough for Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, and the United Nations.
