It's Official - EU Will Give Hamas Money Even Though Hamas Will Not Recognize Israel.

And there it is:

European states have signaled to the Hamas government that they intend to lift the economic embargo on the Palestinian Authority once a national unity government is established, according to Ahmed Yusef, political adviser to Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh. "The European states have promised to reconsider their stance regarding the boycott of the Palestinian government. Following the war in Lebanon there is greater understanding in Europe that they must present a more balanced stance regarding the Arab-Israeli conflict," Yusef said in an interview with Haaretz on Tuesday.

We won't even get into the logic of why Europe needs to be more favorable to the Arabs after an Arab proxy army started another war in the Middle East. Instead, check out what a bunch of shameless, terrorist-appeasing liars they are. A week ago, Italian Ambassador De Bernardin was being pushed on how the EU could possibly claim to not be biased against Israel when they wouldn't declare Hezbollah a terrorist organization. De Bernadin responded by saying that, well, that's true - but that the EU is balancing that out by promising never, ever, ever to grant Hamas legitimacy until Hamas accepts Israel. At the time, we said that he'd be proven a liar within a couple months - our bad on misjudging by a month how soon Hamas would accept a unity government:
MR, 09/08/06:

In pathetically trying to justify why the EU is not a terrorist-appeasing hotbed of moral sanctimony (despite not recognizing the terrorists from Hezbollah as terrorists), Ambassador De Bernardin talked up the hardline stance that the EU has taken toward Hamas: "He boasted that it was in 2003, when Italy held the rotating EU presidency, that Hamas was listed as a terror organization by the block. “As you know when it comes to Hamas, Italy and the European countries are very firm in maintaining that Hamas need to accept Israel before accepting them as a political interlocutor,” he said.... he went on the record saying that the EU will not accept the Hamas government until Hamas accepts Israel. We suggest to you that, within a couple of months, this will turn out to be a demonstrable lie.

In this particular case, he lying just so he could get out of the interview - without changing the subject, he was like 30 seconds away from being asked how it can be that the EU says Hezbollah is an independent organization (when diplomats are condemning Israel for "dragging the Lebanese government into Hezbollah's war") and that the EU says Hezbollah is integrated into the Lebanese government (when diplomats are brushing off Israel's concern that "Hezbollah isn't mentioned in the UN ceasefire resolution"). But the context is unimportant. The critical thing is the shameless lie, which it was obviously a shameless lie. How shameless and obvious? In the post referenced above, we linked the phrase "demonstrable lie" to an earlier post that described in minute detail the nudge-nudge wink-wink that Hamas and the EU would engage in:

If there is actually a Palestinian unity government and that government declares a ceasefire, the following things will happen:
* The international community will announce that the ceasefire is a concession by Hamas which should be rewarded in order to encourage them to moderate further.
* Hamas will send out conflicting signals regarding the precise status of their anti-Jewish genocidal commitments - which everyone will convienetly ignore had been unnegotiable divine obligations just a few short days before (and who knows, maybe they'll be serious this time).
* The PA will begin negotiations with Israel based on the prisoner's document. Israel will be unable to refuse, because here finally the Palestinians are acting like they might not want to destroy the Jewish state.

And this morning's not very funny punchline:

Hamas officials gave Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas the go-ahead Tuesday for negotiations with Israel, a major shift in the militant Islamic group's position as it works to end its international isolation... Palestinian Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh, a Hamas leader, said the government itself would not be involved in the talks because negotiations are supposed to be handled by the Palestine Liberation Organization, headed by Abbas. The distinction could allow Hamas to retain its hard-line credentials with the Palestinian people as the government gains international acceptance.

We think these negotiations are actually based on the 2002 Arab Initiative so they fooled us there (although the 2002 Initiative also demands a Right of Return for 3 to 4 million Palestinians into pre-1967 Israel and is therefore not a two-state solution). For all the rest, the exact layout of the pathetic, spineless, terrorist-appeasing lying was visible weeks if not months ago.
If this surprises you, then we are sorry to inform you that you are an idiot. No exceptions.
