Novelty pig calendars and toys have been banned from a council office - in case they offend Muslim staff. Workers in the benefits department at Dudley Council, West Midlands, were told to remove or cover up all pig-related items, including toys, porcelain figures, calendars and even a tissue box featuring Winnie the Pooh and Piglet... Councillor Mahbubur Rahman, a practising Muslim, backed the ban. He said: "It’s a tolerance of people’s beliefs."
The original title for this post was going to be "Muslims Hate Piglet". But that seemed so confrontational. Third place was "Dhimmi Watch Eat Your Heart Out", but they've seen fit to link to us in the past, and we can't afford to alienate that very small group of people.
Listen, Jerry Falwell makes the verifiably true - although somewhat less than relevant or media-savvy or smart - point that some gay groups had adopted teletubbie Tinky Winky as a campy icon. Suddenly all the proper progressive groups declared him the idiot bigot of the century. Now, Muslim groups are going after Piglet, and somehow they're fighting a life and death civil rights battle. [You're defending Jerry Falwell now? -- ed no... his support for the Liberty debate team is laudable - too bad that his far more important views on homosexuality are odious and unjustifiable... the point is that media silence re Islamic attacks on Piglet is kind of hypocritical, not that Falwell isn't beneath reproach for his attacks on gays and lesbians…you know you're gonna get angry emails anyway, right? sigh... yeah.]
