Root Causes
There is a vocal school of thought - some of it emerging even from mainstream think tanks that should know better - which holds that US policy is the root cause of Islamist violence. The other side argues that Bin Laden and his ideological ilk are determined to establish a global caliphate ruled by Islamic law, and that nothing - not US policy and certainly not poverty - can be changed to placate them.
Al Qaeda has established a new Internet radio station, designed to avoid the filters that media outlets impose when Al Qaeda sends them recordings and videotapes. It's name? "Voice of the Caliphate". They really wanted to call themselves "Voice of ending poverty" or "Voice of opposing US policy," but those names were already taken.
