The UN is Coming. Oh Goody.
Would it be too snarky to say that the UN is going to provide jobs to Gaza Palestinians...
The UN Relief and Work Agency, UNRWA, will expand its operations in the Gaza Strip now that Israel has withdrawn and will focus on job creation and house reconstruction for Palestinian refugees... In 2004, a dispute broke out between Israel and UNRWA, following Israeli claims that UNRWA was assisting Palestinian terrorists, and that among the UNRWA staff were members of Hamas and other terrorist organizations.
... by hiring them to make anti-Israel propaganda:
[The UN] financed the production of thousands of banners, bumper stickers, mugs, and T-shirts carrying the slogan "Today Gaza, Tomorrow the West Bank and Jerusalem,"... an incitement to violence from Palestinian Arabs... looking to frame the withdrawal as a victory for their terrorist cause.
If that's too snarky, how about ... by employing unemployed terrorists:
The UNRWA building dispute comes just two months after the group's top official in Gaza, Peter Hansen, caused an uproar in Israel by acknowledging in a Canadian television interview that his group employs Hamas members.
We have some questions: the Palestinians in Gaza who claim to be refugees finally have what is effectively their own state, right? So why are they still calling themselves refugees - what are they fleeing from, and when do they expect to go back? And if the answer is "they're still waiting for war with Israel so they can go back to Tel Aviv and Haifa", does the United Nations ever expect that to happen? And if not, how long do they intend to spend US taxpayer money taking care of these poor, helpless refugees?
