Imagine Our Surprise
Whether you're a democracy or not really doesn't matter when you're an Arab state considering ties with Israel:
Iraqi president Jalal Talabani made clear Friday that Iraq is not yet ready to begin a process of recognizing the state of Israel... The Iraqi president added that he does not think the time has come for diplomatic relations with Israel, saying "it will be very difficult for Iraq now", to make such a decision. Still, Talabani said that Iraq will not be "more Palestinian than the Palestinians".
Those would be the Palestinians who marched in the streets in support of Saddam Hussein and mourned the butcher's capture:
Gaza has always been a place where former Iraqi president Saddam Hussein found a friendly crowd... In the town of Rafah, in southern Gaza, news of his capture was met with regret, with many Palestinians marking it as a Black Day in history...
Here, comrade Saddam is considered a symbol for all free men in the Arab nation, front member Mohamed Al-Tahrawi told CNN. "President Saddam Hussein -- may God protect him -- was a model of justice and good government in Iraq."
The new Iraqi government - that's the one that replaced Saddam Hussein - is supposed to loath him and everything he stood for. Apparently there's one group in the world that they loath even more.
