Now For Your Weekly State Dept Bashing

This is becoming a regular feature. In fact, if we had categories, we'd be pretty upset we didn't have one for this. Since we don't have categories, we'll just get bitter and upset about the Arab-Israeli conflict. Familiarity is like a warm blanket.
Now that Israel has completed one of the most heart-wrenching and divisive tasks in the history of any democracy - a task that almost brought the country to outright civil war - what are they going to do next? Could the answer be "get pressured by the State Department to make more concessions? We think it could be!

In a first high-level contact between the US administration and Israel after the disengagement, acting Finance Minister Ehud Olmert was invited to a meeting with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, scheduled for Wednesday in Washington.

The agenda hasn't been released yet. What could it be, we wonder:

As Israel struggled Thursday to evacuate the Gush Katif settlements, US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said it must take further steps. "Everyone empathizes with what the Israelis are facing," she said in an interview with The New York Times. But, she added, "It cannot be Gaza only."

Secretary Rice's empathy, we're sure, was heartily appreciated. And her timing - pushing for more concessions on one of the most painful and tension-filled days of the disengagement - was surely also well appreciated. Classy.
In other State Department related news, they've apparently decided that the job of American soldiers is to die in order to spread Islamofacism:

Kurdish politicians negotiating a draft constitution have criticised the US ambassador to Iraq for allegedly pushing them to accept too great a role for Islamic law in the US drive to complete the charter on time. Although a Sunni delegate made similar charges, US officials declined to comment publicly while they worked with politicians as today's deadline loomed.

So at least they're shining all over the Middle East.
