OK, We Kind of Care

The real problem is that this so-called snub follows a string of recent memory lapses that seem to be afflicting religious and political leaders throughout the Western world. Bush on June 29th

The terrorists who attacked us - and the terrorists we face - murder in the name of a totalitarian ideology that hates freedom, rejects tolerance, and despises all dissent. Their aim is to remake the Middle East in their own grim image of tyranny and oppression... To achieve these aims, they have continued to kill - in Madrid, Istanbul, Jakarta, Casablanca, Riyadh, Bali, and elsewhere.

The Sun on July 11th (with screenshot at Powerline):

A July 11th article, "Evil Across Our Planet," in the British newspaper, the Sun, about "Islamic terrorism" purported to highlight "some of the worst atrocities" across the planet. The caption to the accompanying graphic stated: "World of hate ... map shows terror attacks by Islamic extremists since 1993." Curiously, the list contained several attacks that killed none, one or just a few people, yet failed to list a single Islamist terror attack in Israel.

And now the Pope. Maybe it's something in the water.
