Don't Care
The simpering editorialists at Ha'aretz want you to know that unilateral actions aren't bilateral:
Due to the unilateral nature of the Israeli evacuation from the Gaza Strip, no one is working too hard to ask the Palestinians what they think about the idea.
That's because nobody cares.
Nonetheless, Palestinian spokespeople such as Jibril Rajoub, who discussed the issue with journalists in Jerusalem, say the Israeli withdrawal will be judged by the extent to which Israel meets three conditions. The first concerns whether Palestinians will have total control over access to Gaza by land, sea and air... The second Palestinian condition is that Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and part of the northern West Bank will be part of the American "road map" plan... The third, and perhaps most complicated, condition is the demand that the withdrawal include an agreement regarding free and secure transit between the West Bank and the Gaza Strip... These three conditions set by the Palestinians are not up for negotiation with Israel because the disengagement plan is of a unilateral nature.
If the Palestinians were willing or able to negotiate then there'd be something to talk about. But after Oslo, it doesn't matter whether Abbas is weak or is pretending to be weak. The Palestinians had their chance - now even Leftist Israelis just want to get away from them and never hear from them again. The Ha'aretz editorial room appears to be one of the last sanctuaries for the refugees of Oslo. Too bad we can't build a separation fence around them too [that's kind of mean -- ed... no no you're right… they're all Israelis... just myopic and overly ideological ones]
