Now that Chirac is officially a loser, he can talk to Jews again!
French President Jacques Chirac invited Prime Minister Ariel Sharon to meet in Paris on 27 July. This will be their first meeting since 2001... Sources in the Prime Minister's office view the invitation as a result of Chirac's defeat in France's referendum on the EU constitution, which weakened his position... [in 2004] Sharon was criticized by France for saying all French Jews should move to Israel in light of "wild anti-Semitism" there. French government officials announced at the time that Sharon was a persona non grata in France.
I don't know how I feel about Sharon slumming it with Chirac, and I know that I feel uncomfortable that I'm supporting something that the French agree with. But as the US becomes increasingly imperial, Israel is going to need new arms export markets to keep its military industry robust. Selling arms to the French is like giving fish accordions, but Euros are still good on the international market and French Euros are as good as any.
