Israeli Political Roundup - Sharon Makes Like Donald Trump
Shinui ministers to Sharon: "Hey, you can't fire us - we quit!". Sharon to Shinui ministers: Actually, you're fired:
Shinui's five ministers were summoned to Sharon's Knesset office after the vote and handed prepared, one-sentence letters, that ended their terms of office in 48 hours.
Ha'aretz snidely gloats in two different articles (!!) that Sharon "coldly" back-stabbed his "most loyal" and "dogged" allies. Really classly journalism there guys! It's a close call whether they enjoy insulting Sharon or Lapid more. Is there a word for petulant journalist-failures who take pride in slinging mud at their intellectual, political, and social superiors? In the only Ha'aretz article which doesn't explicitly rub Shinui's nose in Sharon's betrayal of their loyalty, Zvi Zrahiya and Mazal Mualem give a girmly describe Shinui being stomped by Labor in Knesset manuevering. The Hoffman writeup in JPost has this fascinating tidbit:
In a letter to Peres, Labor MKs loyal to former prime minister Ehud Barak requested that no negotiations begin until after the Likud central committee approves Labor joining the government and Labor's institutions vote on whether talks should be restarted.
Oh, to be a fly on the wall when Peres sarcastically read that email aloud to his staff.
