Hey UN, Shove It
Oh, I'm shocked. Just shocked:
A majority of the 15 members of the United Nations Security Council is expected to condemn Israel for killing a Hamas leader in a resolution to be voted on Thursday, which the United States has made clear it would veto.
It's infuriating that a world body would condemn a nation-state for assassinating a murderer who's life was devoted to murdering their families and was in the process of branching out to trying to incinerate entire towns. Joking aside, it's just outrageous. Even more outrageous is the UN's nonchalant hypocrisy:
The draft resolution... does not mention Hamas as a group responsible for suicide bombings against Israeli civilians.
UPDATE: Figures:
The United States on Thursday vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution which called for a condemnation of Israel for the killing of Hamas spiritual leader Ahmed Yassin...
Eleven nations, including France, Spain, Russia and China supported the resolution. Three nations, the UK, Germany and Romania abstained, and the U.S. used its veto power, and voted against the resolution.
I haven't seen anything on whether this scenario will play out yet, but a veto of a 9+ vote means that an emergency meeting of the General Assembly to be called. I assume it will be called, and it will turn into the usual Israel hate-fest.
