Why Is Abe Foxman Such A Tool?
Gibson is thinking about making a movie about the Maccabees. Now, you might object to putting money in the hands of a Holocaust-denying anti-Semite, or to same Holocaust-denying anti-Semite making a movie about Jews, but it seems a little inappropriate to call Gibson out on his artistic ability. There're a lot of things to criticize him for (again, just of the top of my head: "Holocaust denial," "anti-Semitism) but it strains credibility to argue that he can't tell a good story from a bad one. In addition to his other self-appointed roles, including spokesperson for worldwide Jewry, Abe Foxman is now apparently also a film critic:
National director Abe Foxman was quoted on the site as saying, "My answer would be, 'Thanks but no thanks.' The last thing we need in Jewish history is to convert our history into a western."
Who do you think is in a better position to decide whether a movie project will be compelling or not? A leaden and humorless politico, or the man who's movie has, for better or worse, swept across America in the last month? The last thing we need in Jewish history is the ADL claiming to speak for Jewish history.
