Every week, in a contest for the week’s best post, each member of the Watchers Council nominates one of their own posts and a second from outside the Council for consideration by other council members. The submissions and results posts from the Watcher of Weasel site have all the information and are worth checking out, if only because there are hand-selected music videos there to keep you occupied. And as usual I’ve also got the full list of submissions at the very bottom of this post, also prefaced it with a video to ease you into your reading.
Last week’s top post was from JoshuaPundit, talking about the antisemitic invective that seems to cling with some tenacity to Western mega-mosques:
For instance, the Islamic Center’s reading list includes a number of authors who trumpet the cause of the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood like Sheikh Yousef al-Qaradawi. Al-Qaradawi has written that Hitler was Allah’s method of judging the Jews and that “Allah willing, the next time will be at the hand of believers.” He has a long history of Jew hatred and support of sharia and Islamist terrorism. He supports Hamas, the destruction of Israel, and the killing of U.S. soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. And he also signed a letter saying that the 9/11 attacks were a “fabricated drama by some influential forces in America in co-ordination with Israeli Mossad.”
Right Truth’s runner up post dealt with the same topic, also describing the less-than-great situation in California. The top non-Council post, from The Jawa Report, dealt with domestic jihadism of a digital sort:
This eventually led to death threats by Samir against me and my family. Eventually The New York Times got wind of “inshallahshaheed” and publicly outed him. Samir didn’t stop. Instead, he was emboldened by the notoriety. His blog eventually landed on the backpages of an Islamist forum which was hosted in Belgium. The forum had Arabic, English, and German sections. The Arabic and German moderators of that forum are now in jail for connections to terrorism. See how this works? Online jihadis often are either connected to or become real world terrorists. They are dangerous. It’s about time we began taking them seriously.
There was a tie for the runner up non-Council slot, with a post on why Tea Party ethics are hippy ethics and a – genuinely terrifying – set of statistics about America’s decline. That last link is borderline required reading.
